Questions
If your question is not here, write to engravetheory@gmail.com or call 438-282-4344. We answer the same day.
- How long does it take?
- 48 to 72 hours from the moment you approve the proof, then one to three days in transit. Most orders placed on a Monday are in the customer's hands by Friday.
- What if I spell a name wrong?
- You will see it before we cut it. We email a photo of the finished engraving before anything ships. Nothing leaves the workshop until you have seen it. If the spelling is wrong on the proof, reply and we fix it at no charge — as many times as it takes.
Read that email carefully, because approving it starts the engraving. Approving the proof is what sends the piece to the machine. After that it cannot be refunded, because it is engraved with your words and nobody else can use it. If we engrave something different from what you approved, that is our mistake and we remake it. - Can I cancel or get a refund?
- Any time before you approve the proof, yes — email us and we refund it in full. Once you approve, the piece goes on the machine with your words on it and cannot be sold to anyone else, so it is not refundable from that point. Anything that arrives damaged or engraved differently from the approved proof we remake at our cost.
- Can I cancel or get a refund?
- Up until you approve the proof, yes — a full refund, no questions. After you approve it we cut your piece, and a board with someone else's name on it cannot be sold to anyone else, so approved orders are not refundable. That is exactly why we send a photo first and ask you to check the spelling. If the piece arrives damaged or does not match the proof you approved, that is on us and we remake it.
- What does shipping cost?
- A flat $20 anywhere in Canada. It is the same whatever you order, because a parcel costs us the same either way. Around Montréal, delivery is free on orders over $90 — tick it at checkout and we arrange a time to drop it off.
- Can I get it faster?
- Yes. Add rush at checkout for $25 and your piece jumps the queue — engraved within 24 hours of proof approval. Shipping time is on top of that, so if the date is tight, local pickup is the safer choice.
- Can you engrave my brokerage logo?
- Yes, and we keep it on file so your agents can reorder without sending artwork again. Upload it when you build the board — PNG, JPG, SVG or PDF all work. A PNG or SVG with a transparent background engraves cleanest; fine gradients get simplified because a laser burns one depth, not shades. A PDF will not draw in the on-screen preview, so we show the space it will fill instead and place the artwork ourselves before sending your proof.
- Can you engrave a photo?
- Yes — pet portraits and handwritten recipes both work well. Send the highest-resolution file you have. Sharp contrast engraves best; a dark photo of a black dog will lose detail.
- How do I look after the board?
- Hand wash with warm water and mild soap, then stand it up to dry. Never put it in the dishwasher and never leave it soaking — both will warp solid maple and lift the grain. Rub in food-safe mineral oil every month or two and it will outlive the kitchen.
- Is it safe to cut on?
- Yes. Solid Canadian maple with a food-safe oil finish. The engraving is burned into the surface, so there is no coating to come off into food. Many people keep the engraved face for serving and use the back for cutting, which keeps the design crisp for longer.
- Do you do large orders?
- Regularly — brokerage closing gifts, corporate client gifts, wedding parties. Past 25 pieces we price the run rather than the tier and can invoice the office. Ask for pricing.
- Where is my order?
- Your confirmation email has a link to a page showing what we are engraving, which stage it is at, and when it should arrive. If you have lost the email, look it up here with the reference, or just write to us.
- Can you ship it straight to my client?
- Yes. Put their address as the shipping address and add a gift note when you build the board — we include it in the box and leave the price off the packing slip.
